A recent project of mine for up-and-coming Los Angeles-area singer/songwriter Sara Lindsay.

By far, the most important part of your website is how and how well it has been designed. More specifically, how it has been coded.

You won’t have to look far or listen too closely to hear the term “Search Engine Optimization” thrown around. In a nutshell, this is how friendly and visible your website is to the search engines, most importantly Google, Yahoo and MSN/Bing. There is nothing that can cause a website to sink or swim in the search engine arena than coding method. Having errors and sloppily constructed markup in your website will undoubtedly cause it to be penalized when contacted by the search engine web crawlers.

For these reasons, I hand code and tailor make all ground-up websites that I create. I place high emphasis on markup validation according to the W3C (or World Wide Web Consortium) – the authority on web standards. Unless something you absolutely require in your website doesn’t play well with the W3C rules, your website will validate to ensure that when the crawlers drop by, we’ll be ready for ‘em!

Web Design Pricing

As websites and the purposes they fulfill vary greatly from one another, pricing your website project is art and not necessarily a science.

To give you a general idea:

• if you want to be set up with a do-it-yourself WordPress blog and your own domain & hosting – sites will start at $249 including hosting/domain.
• if you want the special advertised on Craigslist, including training/consultation, theme installation and optimization – sites will start at $475 including hosting/domain.
• if you want a fully-functional website with dynamic content and multimedia and built by me, for you – business sites start at around $1500.
